Animal Legal Defense Fund (SALDF)

The Student Fund for the Defense of Animal Legal Interests of the Department of Juridical Sciences at the University of Quebec at Montréal (FEDIJA) was founded in March 2007 by professor Martine Lachance, GRIDA’s director.

To meet GRIDA’s objectives, the FEDIJA, under GRIDA’s supervision, will:

  • establish dynamic and productive inter-university partnerships between the research and teaching fields, as well as fields of practice that share the objectives of the Foundation;
  • use its resources to promote and support the development, dissemination, and publication of knowledge related to various issues concerning the legal status and welfare of animals;
  • organize and host, to the extent that it is able, meetings, forums, roundtable discussions, seminars, conferences, and other assemblies useful to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge relevant to animal protection; and
  • allow the largest possible number of participants in the exchanges, works, and discussion forums focusing on the development of knowledge and experiences relative to the welfare and legal status of animals.
